I clearly should have read the book before I took the quiz. I also think it would have helped to read this page first. I was thankful to be able to make better guesses by reading through the rest of the questions first. Thanks for including us in their homework. - Katite Mackey INDIVIDUAL ASSIGNMENT #1

ASSIGNMENT DUE DATE: FRIDAY, DECEMBER 2.
Suspense -a feeling of uncertainty or anxiety about what may happen in the near future
Foreshadowing - an indication of a potential future event
Four Examples of Suspense:pg. 36 - Tony Marston says, "Must go through with it, I suppose." Then he says, "Warm steaming water, tired limbs, presently a shave, a cocktail, dinner. And after -?"pg. 30 - Vera thinks that Mrs. Rogers "drifted from the room like a shadow".pg. 22 - Phillip Lombard thought to himself: 'He'll ask me now if I was old enough to be in the War. These old boys always do."pg. 31 - The Ten Little Indians poem.
Four Examples of Foreshadowing: pg. 27 - Fred Narracott says, "Can't land on Indian Island when there's a southeasterly. Sometimes 'tis cut off for a week or more."pg. 31 - The Ten Little Indians poem.pg. 15/16 - The old man says to Mr. Blore, "I'm talking to you, young man. The day of judgement is very close at hand." Subsiding onto his seat Mr. Blore thought to himself, ''He's nearer the day of judgement than I am!'' But there, as it happens, he was wrong...pg. 36 - Mr. Blore thought, "Good thing, perhaps, that one can't forsee the future..."
Our group chose these examples because they fit our definitions. An example is the where Marston says, "And after-?" He is referring to what may happen after he eats dinner. When Marston says this, it left me feeling uncertain and anxious to find out how it is important to the story. It leaves me wondering what may happen after dinner. I think our other examples fit our descriptions too. An example of foreshadowing is where Mr. Blore says, "He's nearer the day of judgement than I am!" Christie then says, "But there, as it happens, he was wrong..."This indicates to me that the "day of judgement" could be close for Mr. Blore. I am left wondering when this will happen, or how it will happen. I think this could be an example of suspense, as well. I feel uncertain about what may happen, and anxious to find out.
